Well, we finally broke down and started using our TagPlace as our new blog. Seeing as we usually post bizarre and unusual techy wonders here, we will get started with a few really weird posts:
I was reading my favorite website for weird tech treats, slashdot, and they led me to this wonder of the electronic world.
Water Cooling Computers with a Swimming Pool
Can you beleive that some guy actually hooked up his computers to a cooling system built out of some hoses and his swimming pool! I think it's a bit overkill, but impressive none-the-less. It never ceases to amaze me how far some people will go to prove their point (in this case, i guess he is trying to save money on his power bill) or make their computers run quieter.
But it still doesn't come close to beating this other wonderful innovation:
Aquarium Full of Oil for PC Cooling
From the Article: "Forget fancy watercooled CPUs or complicated heat pipes. Annoyed with the noise of the forced-air cooling in his computer, this guy simply dumped his entire motherboard in an aquarium filled with mineral oil. No modifications were necessary; he even left the fans running to keep the oil moving about. The only thing not submersed in oil is the hard disk."
On a bit different note, this computer is made out of a 40 ounce whisky bottle. Simply ingenious. From the article: "You might have seen computers built inside of toasters, radios, garden lamps etc. As motherboards keep getting smaller and smaller the possibilites on where you can embed then increases. As it turns out, you can get them to fit inside an empty glass bottle. Whisky PC for a whiskey lover that needs a small and silent server."
