Would a Taylor 114ce be a decent starter guitar for a beginning acoustic guitar player?
I would like to purchase a beginner guitar that will last for at least two years. I would be willing to buy a more expensive guitar later, but I don’t want to feel rushed to upgrade in the first year or two.
Even a CHEAP Taylor beats most beginners guitars on the market. It’s not a great guitar, but it beats a FIRST ACT or a CORDOBA or an EPIPHONY hands down.

#1 Record/Radio City [Bonus Tracks] $18.98 A two-fer combining Big Star’s first and second albums, #1 Record/Radio City remains a definitive document of early-’70s American power pop and a virtual blueprint for much of the finest alternative rock that came after it. The lone Big Star record to merit the full participation of founder Chris Bell, the brightly produced #1 Record splits the songwriting credits evenly between him and Alex Chilton (in the tradition of Lennon-McCartney). But from the beginning, the group is tearing apart at the seams: Bell and Chilton’s relationship seems less a working partnership than a battle of wills, and each possesses his own distinctive vision. The purist, Bell crafts electrifying and melodic classic pop like “Feel” and “In the Street,” while Chilton, the malcontent, pens luminous, melancholy ballads like “The Ballad of El Goodo” and “Thirteen.” Ultimately, their tension makes #1 Record brilliant. However, Radio City shifts gears dramatically: Bell is largely absent (though he guests, uncredited, on a few tracks, including the wonderful “Back of a Car”), allowing Chilton’s darker impulses free reign. From the raucous opener “O My Soul” onward, the new Big Star is noisier, edgier, and even more potent. Erratic mixing, spotty production, shaky performances — by all rights, Radio City should be a failure, yet Chilton is at his best when poised on the brink of disaster, and the songs hang together seemingly on faith and conviction alone. Each track recalls pop’s glory days, from the Kinks-ish snarl of “Mod Lang” to the Byrds-like guitar glow that adorns “Way Out West.” The much-celebrated “September Gurls” is indeed a classic — everything right and good about pop music distilled down to three minutes of pure genius. #1s…and Then Some $13.99 Three weeks before the release of this double-disc best-of-and-then-some collection, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn, who as Brooks & Dunn were one of the most successful duos in country music history, decided to call it a day after 19 years, 40 singles (half of which topped the country charts), ten studio albums, and a slew of awards. While their announcement stunned contemporary country fans, recent albums showed the pair beginning to rely too heavily on their formula and not enough on new ideas. Still, as far as the industry was concerned, they went out on top. #1s…and Then Some contains 30 tracks spread over two discs and includes two new songs. Disc one opens with Ronnie Dunn and Terry McBride’s barroom and stadium rock killer “Honky Tonk Stomp,” which opens the set with special guest guitar blazer Billy Gibbonsof ZZ Top, and disc two opens with the pair’s own “Indian Summer,” a midtempo ballad that’s as fine a summation of their collective career as listeners are likely to get. Dozens of familiar cuts are here, from their first smash “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” to the gorgeous cover of B.W. Stevenson’s “My Maria” and a slew of other hits and B-sides — including “Cowgirls Don’t Cry” and “If You See Him/If You See Her,” both with Reba McEntire. While it’s true that many of these tracks have been collected on the two previous hits collections, this is the first time that all the number ones have been in one place, and it’s the best argument there is for the legacy they leave behind. Remember, this duo originally consisted of two solo artists who became a group as the result of an arranged marriage by their record company; the combination worked better than anyone ever dreamed.
